Time for Change

Every summer and at the beginning of each year, I sit in professional development workshops and read books about the “next best thing in education”. Usually, I get excited about an idea, I try some things out in my classroom.  Sometimes I find some tools that make things easier in the classroom or that are engaging for my students. I don’t however, think I have ever found something that changed the way students learn and really helped to personalize their learning.  I still face the same struggles year in and year out.  How do I motivate them? How do I make it relevant? How can I personalize learning for my students? How can I decrease classroom disruption?

I have used technology in class and have had success with student engagement. But I want to use it to its full potential.  This year I will be embarking on a journey to turn my classroom into a blended learning environment.  I am seeking to create a student centered classroom where students are in control of aspects of their learning.  Technology will be a component of this plan but not the center. In the coming weeks I will be putting together a literature review and an innovation plan.  I am excited and of course nervous to undertake this journey.  I know the time for change is now!
